I dont play wvw that much so warclaw is kinda useless for me :p. Jackal and Griffon feel like they are the best to control. The roller beetle and bunny are usefull but way harder to control. I only use the jackal for portals. The skyscale is way too much effort, when it is like a less cool version of the griffon.
I also am of the opinion that griffon is just a cooler and better designed mount than skyscale, perhaps one of the centerpieces of GW2's unique branding and style. Even that said, it only took me about four days to get skyscale with the return to achievements (outside of treats and lamp, which I elected to craft myself to save money).

For the gathering animation, there are 2 considerations: Speed of animation, and number of gather "hits" you get from the animation.

Probably. Honestly, I get that Skyscale is a "prestige" mount, but the time-gated requirements, especially for newer players is an absolute shitshow with how it's handled. Then of course you have the GW2 neckbeards who will cockride ArenaNet over the design choice. Is the new way to unlock the Skyscale bugged? After completing the first flight mastery in SotO you get the opportunity to bring a scyscale egg found in abandoned scyscale nests to a specific NPC, in order to unlock the collection. But for me and my friends these nests don't ever give anything. It always says "There is nothing here".
If farming actively, which is obviously faster you should definitely follow taco routes and farm LS4 nodes and join a few LS4 metas. If farming passively, set up all your alt-characters on bjora essence chests and in about 2 weeks time you have full LS4 currency stacks without even entering a LS4 map.

Absolutely. My mount use is probably about 90% Skyscale (general traversal), 6% Jackal (medium to long distance on ground, difficult terrain/uphill), 2% Beetle (long distance, easy terrain) and 2% Skimmer for water travel - since getting it. Praise the Raptorbunnygriff.

Took around 3 hours. Wait 2 hours then do the saving skyscales (using the wiki page) this took like 3 hours ish. Then feed it once to start the time gate go get the treats and toys. Sunday - feed it and complete any complete any "return to" achievements for the s4 currency. Another thing, Vision is an LWS4 Legendary, that's why you need to do the original collection to get the Mastery unlocked. Anet has said that when the Soto-Skyscale was mentioned that people who get the Skyscale through Soto will not unlocked the LWS4 mastery track.. since obviously the Soto method is quite a bit easier.
